Industry Success for In House Chefs – (21 September 2007, London)

Two of the In House Catering Company’s senior chefs have scooped second place in an industry-wide cook off. Mark Easterman, Head Chef from Savoy Place Conference Centre, and Leo Rodley, Head Chef from 76 Portland Place Conference Centre, overcame stiff competition in the Association of Catering Excellence’s 2007 Ready Steady Cook! Contest held yesterday at Imperial College in South Kensington.

The guys were up against 14 other catering companies with many seasoned competition ‘veterans’ entering. The Ready Steady Cook challenge is to produce a main course and dessert for 2 covers in a 30-minute period from a box of mystery ingredients – this year, the core items included halibut, squid and lamb.

The event has become so big in recent years that this year, the heats were held in the afternoon, three heats of five teams, with the 6 finalist teams cooking in the evening in front of an audience of 250 senior players from the contract catering industry.

For the final, their menu was:

Shepherd’s Pie with Aubergine and Green Bean Tian

Fig & Apple compote with a blackberry coulis served with a sweet chilli and basil butterscotch latte

Mark Herman, Managing Director commented, “We’re delighted for the guys – they worked really well together and showed that dishes don’t have to be highly complex to stand out and win. It's all about great tasting, fresh food".
